Frequently asked questions

What do I need to register to open a small business in Ireland?

Most businesses register a business name with the CRO if trading under another name, register for tax with Revenue, register for VAT once turnover passes the threshold, and register as an employer before hiring. Food businesses also register with the HSE Environmental Health Service.

No. The Business Builder is a general checklist to help you plan. Requirements depend on your business, so confirm details with Revenue, the CRO, your local authority, and your accountant or solicitor.
